I don't think a crew can maintain a mile a day, I always required 1000ft per man and 1000ft for their equipment: 1 man crew-stay home isn't safe to work 1 man crew, 2 man crew=3000ft, 3man crew=4000ft, 4 man crew=5000ft (you get the picture). I agree that hourly is the way to go...with a bonus plan for the "Foremen Only", Benefits are a plus. Once the crews get out and work hourly, especially in winter snow days with no work, you paid 2 hour show up, have them clean up the equipment. If it gets too costly for you, put them back on units only lower their rate as Some folks don't know what is best for them. Phone companies pay hourly with a required unit work task production, however your never be able to pay benefits like they do. Keep safe, hold morning safety meeting before crews leave. Check with accountant before switching to hours related to Labor Board-min wages-taxes.
