It is a common problem. Motorola Surfboard modems put out 32 to 37 volts at a low amperage, sometime TV's have an issue. SA DVR's really don't like the backfeeding voltage resulting in the hard drive going out and 10 to 12 years it caused an issue with ADC HISU's. We swithced to the Extreme power blocking splitter and made sure the grounds are adequate and the problem went away.
