Well lets see, considering that to drill, pump, tramsport, refine, and transport is funded by private commrecial capital, creats jobs for thousands of people, and we have more than enough to power the country for the next 200 + years right here yes it's cheaper for the country.
If solar and wind power were truly developed enough to be commercially viable the power companies it this nation would be useing it on a larger scale than they are now. The free enterprise system in this nation tends to make things like that happen. Your calling for more government money. If you bothered to look at the country's fiscal situation, and if you understand basic economics, you'd know we don't have.
Then Germany was only able to produce that much solar power for about 24 hours over a Friday afternoon and a Saturday morning when demand is lower and 90% of the nations factories are closed. Also they said they were lucky with unusally bright sunshine. Until it's more devloped to make it economicly feasible which will most likley come from the private sector, it's cheaper to drill.
