Virtual head end?

Jumping in head first here trying to learn. Looking at taking over a small cable company that is all analog. Looking at the head end and simply the power usage begs the question, is there a way to bring in the channels and programs in on an ip connection and then convert to rf? We have are currently an middle mile bandwidth provider and isp so it is easy to throw bandwith around if possible. I don't know if it's even possible but I would think if a larger company could provide the head end it would make more sense than trying to maintain all the equipment. Thanks!
