First red flag is you say after 4 years you never paid a dime in taxes???? Your toast, regardless if you are w-2 or 1099 you gotta pay the man, $34 grand sounds about right for 4 years at $50 grand a year. you figure you pay 15% ss tax, if your self empolyed, on top of the gov't tax. Your best bet is to get atax lawyer because somebodies gotta pay. Good luck, thats why a lotta guys who are self employied don't make it as contractors and go bust ,they get that big check and spend it. You have to be disciplined and pay quarterly taxes, state and federal. I hate it after paying out and expenses I'm lucky if I get 60% of my check.
