For your information the Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
To date this ruling has not been overturned. This is why DC had to get rid of it's 100% gun ban.
Chicago has a handgun ban in place since 1989,but still has one of the highest murder rates in the country with over 60 school age kids killed so far this year and over 5000 gun related murders since 2001. That's more than the number of troops killed in Afghanistan in the same time period.
Until you change the way people look at shooting and killing you can have all the bans and laws you want and it will not stop things like CT from happening. When a person or person sets their mind on doing something it's hard to stop them. If they want to kill large groups of people and they don't have a gun they will use other means. Just look at what happened on 911, Ok city, or the sarin gas attack in Toyko as a few examples.
Once you take away guns from law abiding citizens then only the criminals will have guns. Every time the government bans something a black market for it pops up. They tried it in the 20's with alcohol and look what happened. Just look at the illegal drug trade in the states.
You know the asshole in Aurora CO bypassed 4 movie theaters that were closer to his home and picked the one that has a no conseal carry policy, the others didn't have. This guy picked a school a (gun free zone) and he only stopped when armed first responders were about to get him. He had lots more ammo. Who knows in eaither case if some law abiding person in either place had been armed maybe they could have stopped or slowed these guys down allowing more people to get away. Baning guns will not stop mass killings from happening, it will only make more people sitting ducks for the people intent on causing death and destruction.
