I'll agree with you on Afghanistan, but I believe Iraq was a personal vendetta that was spun into a political tool. Bush had a plan in place 9 months before 9/11 to invade Iraq, he just wanted an excuse. Bush knew the intelligence to justify the the invasion was "faulty" long before the invasion actually took place. Saddam didn't want terrorist in Iraq, he was building his wealth hand in hand with the west, everything Al-qaeda was against. A good read about this is "The Price Of Loyalty" by Paul O'Neill, Bush's first Secretary of the Treasury.
