Re: Splicer Pay rate on piece work Pay and per hou

When I was teaching new splicers for CableCom, I would take all of thier production while the company paid them an hourly rate to learn. I would make it a six week course where I would lose money the first couple weeks having to take the time explaining and working with the FNG, then I would start to make money and by the end I was raking in real good money. For him to give you 40% (as an employee that is a very fair cut) to teach you right off the bat is great, just get an agreement as to how long you will be his apprentice. The mechanics of splicing and activation are simple, understanding the print and being able to configure multiple pieces on a pole or into a ped so you can access all of the ports takes a little intelligence and practice. Each MSO has a little differant specs so you have to be able to adapt. Just remember one thing when you get to a pole you don't want to climb, the strand crew was there, the cable crew was there twice and both crews had to drag wire from pole to pole, not just get up there.
