Re: transmit power for modems

Back when I was working for C-COR we had a customer in rural PA that kept loosing input hybrids in his amplifiers every time there was a thunderstorm. His amplifiers had NO diplex filters and was a 1-way plant. We had him put "surge filters" and/or "diplex filters" into one of his most problem cascades.

He lost none of his "filtered" amplifiers but still lost amplifiers that had no diplexers. This did rectify his lightening issue that had been happening for years.

Conclusion...
Lightening is a form of AC. AC is a very low frequency that did in this case destroy the input hybrids. The diplex filter blocks or re-directs certain frequencies and protected the forward hybrid in this case.

It is possible you had some sort of electrical surge or lightening related condition that may have fried your diplexers.
