The Ho letter did seem too squeeky clean and I accepted other annalysis that went...WWII was over and nobody cared. But Lyndon did cook up an event to justify more troops etc. Compare the attack on Pearl Harbor with a suspected radar lock on a destroyer (Maddox).
We could have skipped Iraq...but didn't...the troops thought it was payback for 9/11.
And...Texans wanted Texas...then they offered it as  state.  You are right, Mexico came along later...might have taken that to except for the Indians and the Civil War.

None of this mattered to the men on Guadalcanal. We should remember it in hopes it never happens again.
