Sturgis used to be a "real" biker run, but as Harley's became more mainstream, and middle aged people wanting to be "like" us, it went down hill. Sure, it's a good place for the posers and wannbees to go to so they can cut loose and act like a biker. But all the titty flashing and drinking is pretty much kept out of town now. They have too many rentacops that they bring in that want to make a name for theirself by trying to bust they 1%ers and the real bikers that act up. Hell an illegal U turn is a $300.00 dollar fine. I have been a patch holder (77) for almost 30 years, and don't believe all that crap that you see on the TV. A true 1%er will never give an interview to the media. All clubs are different and all 1%ers are different. Sturgis has become a tourist event, that's all. Sure all clubs make it a mandatory run for almost all members: I said "Almost" all. They go so that they can set up their vendor booths and sell support items to the "tourists". We don't associate with the wannabees or posers. They bring a bad name to the motorcycle world as far as we are concerned. But, we need them so they can keep buying new bikes every few years, and so they can use the stealerships service department, and so they can buy all the HD overpriced leather and "biker" bling. Sturgis is just a tourist trap nowadays. Sure, beautiful country to ride in, but, I made the run so many times when I was younger that it became old scenery. It never changes. The run is mandatory for all clubs unless you have some "old" history. I don't have to go anymore. Personally, my old bones can't take the long ride anymore. But, go and enjoy, but just like Mardi Gras, the law f*cked things up as far as partying and having a good time. Just stay away from the 1%ers and don't ask them any questions: You will probably get your arse beat down. Peace and all that crap. "Attitude" 77 New Orleans Chapter.
