In Cal. the courts have 2 years to give it to DMV to be tracked and DMV keeps it on your driving record for 10 years. As long as there is no property damage or injuries related to it they let it go, insurance companies can only go back 7 years. After the 10 year statute of limitations, a following one is treated like a first.
