The air marshals and pilots will soon carry 9mm ceramic hollow points as soon as the FAA & Homeland Security approves them, They start to crumble before they leave the barrel.
They are small ceramic pellets like bird shot and molded with a outer hard ceramic coating.
I seen a demonstration at the MGM Grand at a SecureWorld Demonstration, they are designed to be used in close quarters situations.
the setting was a DEA raid of an active cocaine processing facility where there was a high concentration of explosive chemicals in glass beakers.
the dummies used as the combatants were knocked back 10ft and the rounds that hit the glass crumbled on contact, the rounds penetrated chairs, sheet rock walls.
The masked instructor shot 4 rounds through a 4" thick insulated wall and knocked the target back 5ft, then shot 8 rounds into a single pane glass window with zero penetration, then took the butt of the gun and shattered the window.
And to finish off his demonstration he ejected the last round, wrote his name on the wall, gouging the sheet rock, then moves to another window and the writes his name and the round crumbles.
But they come with a hefty price tag of $35.00 per round, the instructor said once they get approval and have signed contracts for orders of 10,000 rounds they should sell for about $30.00 a round, then there will be other calibers for pistols and long barrel rifles introduced at a later date
