I spent 6 months managing a group of installers, as that was all I could stomach, in a system I will not mention here, and what you post is very accurate to the conditions of what I experienced as well. Not to mention if one of your installers calls in sick, (God forbid), you are still required to fulfill that route, but if one of their in-house installers call in sick, they simply dump their route back into the pool, and contractors are required to pull them as their techs become available, and in some instances, even if they aren't available. Techs are held to a very demanding QC check list, which is to be expected, but not given the proper amount of time to complete the work to spec, as at least 85% of work orders turned out to have more work that needed to be performed than what was listed on them, (that was so they could cram 700 points on a 300 point route), and techs were required to fulfill work customer requested. Spec up? Heck, every job had a "spec up" required, and you were not allowed to reschedule the spec up part, it had to be done on the initial trip, so now you may be replacing drops, or wrapping to a ground location since it had never been grounded previously. Making all your time frames, AND passing QC on all of them, has become an art these days! After nearly 30 years in the industry, I can honestly say, I never liked installs in the past, and certainly don't like them now! That is why I stick to splicing and sweeping. Much more money without all the headaches.
