By the way, the MSO's calculate risk into their prices. If they can get some shmoe to do the job for half the price, and get an acceptable margin of completion for the wage, then they won't pay more to have near 100% perfection. In a perfect world, you pay top dollar for top quality, but not in this economy. It's all about the almighty profit margin. The ship will right itself eventually. If crap pricing attracts crap work quality, and results in crap service/product, then customers will seek alternatives. If MSO wants to stay competitive, they will eventually have to pay better to ensure a more quality product/service.
Just remember the law of supply and demand.

More supply + Less Demand = Lower Prices (customer has pricing power)
Less Supply + More Demand = Higher Prices (manufacturer has pricing power)
Available Jobs
More Demand for + Less Supply of = Lower Wages (company has bargaining power/worker desperate)
Less Demand for + More Supply of = Higher Wages (worker has bargaining power/company desperate)
The law of supply and demand relationship is opposite when it compares between consumer pricing & job availability.
The economy sucks right now, and no one really has the option to pick and choose where they're going to work since jobs are in short supply and unemployment is high. Of course, true to form, the mega corps are going to take full advantage of that fact, and throw tables scraps out for contractors to fight over like starving animals. Then the underbidding war ensues, and you get crap prices. Everyone has to eat, and food and money doesn't fall out of the sky.....right?
So, why doesn't everyone get really selfish do the following things:
1- Cry foul
2- Pass over any job that doesn't "suit" us.
3- Apply for unemployment, or get an extension on UE benefits.
4- Lean on our friends and family to "suckle" us in our complacency and over-valuation of our worth.
5- Liquidate everything we own to finance our tantrum.
WON'T WORK!!!
UE is gov't paid (ie. you and me)
Gov't doesn't have money, so they borrow it from the country that we sold out to anyway (China)
Gov't is spending more than we can give them through the current tax rate, so they either raise taxes to break even on budget deficit, or borrow (interest on loan.....HELLO!!)
Leverage massive, unpayable debt on our children/grandchildren.
Deficit is yearly budget, DEBT is cumulative (growing) total debt of all budget defecits combined WITH INTEREST!
We can cry foul all we want, but system is broken from the floor up, compounded by the greedy human nature. All we can do is work whatever job it takes to ensure that we can provide for our families like MEN!
If you can take the loss of pay to shake your fist and say that you won't be undervalued, then go ahead, more power to you!
Just don't expect the average Joe that lives hand to mouth to support his family to join you in your march for recognition at the expense of his family not being fed unless you are willing to support him in the process.
Bottom line. Go to work wherever you can find it, and go home happy knowing that you did your duty as a man to take care of your family!
