Re: prevailing wage work

Did some in another industry:Along with the bid package there is a wage determination based on the prevailing UNION wage for the area where the job takes place. Read the Bacon-Davis Act for better info & details..........The contractor / bidder examines the work and submits a price. The amount per hour paid for each job classification is defined in the bid package. You have to have a certain percentage of craftsmen and laborers..........Contractors cannot pay everyone as a laborer and keep the difference....... When you are awarded the contract all the material suppliers will show up with material bids........whatever is selected has to be approved by the agency conducting the work..........The only thing that predicts profit or loss is efficient management...the wages and materials will be set.............the amount paid will not change EXCEPT if you can find loop holes in the bid materials and request time and material expansion of the scope of the work.........Some companies do nothing but govt prevailing wage work and do ok...........Aas an employee it can be cake work if the wage per hour is ok. As a contractor it can be a killer if you did not cover every aspect of the work or have to redo anything............Good Luck,Joe
