Back in the early 90's before cell phones all the trucks used 2 way radios. Whenever anyone called into the office or to another truck everyone could hear them and whatever they said. Anyway it was my turn to ride out the system for CLI, they had a special truck setup for just doing CLI. This truck had no mounted radio so I was given a handheld with a external mike attached. Kind of looked like the ones cops carry. Thinking nothing of it I would toss it into the cab of the truck and start my ride-out. It took about a week to 10 days to ride-out the entire system and anyone who has ever done one you know how boring it can be and how that constant Kookoo can get to you. You can find yourself doing some strange things to take you mind off the miles and miles of beep beep beep beep... During one of these days I had the radio on and was singing along to the songs and from time to time inserting my own lyrics (adult wording included). Well little did I know the mike to the radio was keyed somehow and everyone I worked with could hear what I was singing, including the girls in the office. This went on for about 2 hours until they finally heard me talking to myself and say what intersection I was at. I'm driving down the road and 4 cable trucks come rolling up from four different directions all with lights flashing. I'm wondering WTF there must be a big outage or something. I stop and ask what's up. I had four guys laughing at me and I still don't know what the hell is going on until one of them goes to my truck and pulls the radio out and says you've been broadcasting everything for the last 2 hours...I said everything?? I was then greeted by some of my own lyrics..That was my last day of ride-out, it took about 6 months for the jokes to stop and about a year before I could go into the office and not have the girls giggle when I walked past...I was sure glad when we went to NexTel...
That's just one of many
