Can't say anything about Vonage, but I use the Magic Jack and love it!!
Had it for about 3 years and for $19.95 a YEAR (not month) you cant go wrong.
The only downfall is that you (used to) have to keep your computer running 24-7 and if you don't have a premium high speed internet service, your calls have a tendency to become garbled if you use it while downloading or streaming vidoes.
They have come up with a solution to that problem though. They now have a product that connects directly to the modem, it is completely independent from your computer.
The device costs a little more, but the service (I believe) is the same. $19.95 per year.
Whats really cool about Magic Jack is, if you have friends or family over seas you can send them one and call them, or have them call you anywhere in the world for free.
