Gary. This is not non-belief, this is contempt. It's a justification for a positive self-feeling and is a way of negatively responding to someone (in this case God) who has not fully lived up to an interpersonal standard that a person thinks is important. It is closely affiliated with pride or arrogance. Jesus was called every name in the book while he was being beaten to a pulp, and then crucified because of our arrogance. In some way we are all responsible for the death of the Son Of God, yet He still said " Forgive them Father for they know not what they do". Contempt for God will always be here. But sooner or later everyone will be given a chance to except Gods love (saul is a good example)and be forgiven. You are so right. It is totally up to the person. The only blame or regret will always be on us, not The One and Only Almighty God who has proven his love for us. There will be no excuses. Question is, If he (danimal and others like him) do not believe God exists, why are they against Him? Could it be they believe, but have contempt?
