When all us hero's started in cable back in the day, (1970's) Everyone was required to climb, installers included. nowadays they are not, as someone already stated, this is for insurance reasons. Don't try and call me out as an installer either, I started as one, (as most should) then worked my way into service (as most should) Then onto line maintenance, fiber, head end etc... We built our own extensions, so i've had plenty of experience in construction also. You guys who are on here bashing someone who works in your field are pretty pitifull, without lineman there is no need for installers, but without installers there are no need for lineman either, this is ( or at least was) an industry where everyone had a job to do, took pride in doing it and worked together to get it done. Now it's just a bunch of "boy's" trying to sound like their job is somehow more important than someone elses, everyone can climb higher, work faster, smarter, braver etc...
It's like a giant pissin contest with a bunch of lil peckerheads, When i started in this business, we laughed at lineman, because all ya had to do to be one was be dumb enough to do what you were told, they could put it up, but when it quit workin they had no way of knowin how to fix it, so they called us service tech's for help. If you didn't start as an installer and work your way up, you're no better than someone who has only been an installer, you know one aspect of the job and that's it!
I'm a big,bad lineman lol ,,,get over yourself!!
