Understood. But installers are not taught to use climbing gear ( insurance reasons). Some do but most don't. I'm not saying anyone here is a bad lineman. I'm just saying we should get off our high horse and work together like the old days. I think you misunderstood what I was saying about stepping a pole. If you can't get a ladder to it , it should be stepped. And yes you should get paid for stepping a pole. I turn them in and when I get a few lined up I go out on weekends and do them for extra cash.
