The biggest issue is what your contract tells you,
While the psychology of chargebacks could be argued....folks will work harder for a reward v.s. do superior work to avoid pain (charge backs)............it is what you agreed to that controls. IF you were told to show your ID the wise contractor would show it AND write down the name of the customer (not his kid or representative) who saw the ID. IF the customer on the account was not present to see the ID you leave and refuse to proceed.
Try getting on to a federal base without proper ID...CONTRACTORS WILL IDENTIFY THEMSELVES WITH EVERY ENTRY means.....show your ID.
