Re: Amateur (Ham) Radio

It is sad that the hobby is slowly fading away with everyone interested in the internet.

The great thing about understand HAM radio communications, it has helped tremendously with the understanding of cable TV communications specifically related to the return spectrum. There are problems that occur in the 5-42 MHz return spectrum that are directly related to propagation and terrestrial noise and interference in the HAM bands. Sometimes when the return (in a cable plant) has a low noise floor, it can be proportional to poor propagation and look good until the cycle changes throughout the day or season.

Many people wonder and ask WHY the noise and ingress is greater (on the return) at night in many cases and can't figure out why. It is NOT because "everyone is at home from work with their lights, TV's and computers on" as I have heard many cable people say for the past 30 years either!
