Several local HAM guys here in MD do a presentation for the local Boy Scout troop each year. The kids show interest and like using the rig to talk to other scouts all over the world. But guess what...they write down cell phone numbers and call the new pals back on their cells.
I understand the old tube radios with the big antennae will be the only communication working if the sats & cell towers go down. Nice to have a spare system.
