Pretend you drill a wall and cut a gas line. The basement fills with gas fumes and a few hours later the house lifts a few feet, bursts into flames and falls into the basement, killing the family. Who are they going to sue?
You?...You have some insurance but after that...they have you to cover the rest of the loss.
Directv and all the HSPs and subcontractors have no contact with the customer or house you blew up. They are sue proof.
It is you who has the liability. You are an independent contractor.
