A little about copper. It doesn't matter what fitting you use there will still be air and moister
trapped in there. over time it will oxidize. AC will speed up the molecules (process).
As far as the marks on the center conducter left by the old fitting, it shouldn't matter, but I always go ahead and core alittle to get rid of it to be safe. If at all possible make it a new connection while your there. Who knows you might fix a problem unawares and be considered a cable god.
