John 3:3 says you do. What information do you have that leads you to believe that to be inaccurate?
And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
Exodus 32:9-10
This after the Jews decided to have Aaron make them a golden calf to worship, because they got tired of waiting for Moses to come down out of the mountain. They decided to make themselves a god that was tangible and they could do what ever they wanted. Read verse 6. This is the kind of god that man creates. Something they can believe that doesn't interfere with the life THEY WANT to live.
God is just and merciful, and it is being just that requires Him to punish sin. If He didn't, then would He still be just?
