That is also my thoughts. What can be done to keep that from happn? I was thinking maybe a ferrite core at the ground block. The drop is a straight shot from tap to modem no splitters and is grouded at the pole (Dont ask why it isn't grounded at the house lol). I would think the ground would keep it from happening but clearly it dosn't.
This particular modem is a SA4200. Have used ammbient :( i agree they suck.
