Thanks, I've found some good sites on the net that offer lots of designs, and it looks like you can have just about any kind of house you like. Some of them aren't even built into a hill. They have some pretty sophisticated drainage systems incorporated in them, so the drainage thing is not a big worry.
Thanks again for your take on it, I've never been in one but have been thinking if I ever build a place I would look into this. This whole project is a couple of years off. Want to make sure I got all the ducks in line before I drop that kind of cash. My wife and I are going to start looking for land in the spring and then build a year or two after that. This will be or last move until we either die or move back to Japan....but you never know life tends to happen while you're busy making other plans..
