Wow 1998 called and they want their "high speed" connection back.. lol 256/1M yikes.. Did you try the same router with 2 laptops ? Reason why I ask, is if the kid with the Xbox is connected to Xbox live and playing online, he is using ALL of the available bandwith @ those speeds. The laptop should still pull an IP even if the Xbox is hoggin' it all.. I'd try a different router and go from there. Hope this helps..
