TV subscribers are ditching their cable companies at an ever faster rate in the past few months, and many of them aren't signing up with a satellite or phone competitor instead. Their willingness to simply go without pay television could be a sign that Internet TV services such as Netflix and Hulu finally are starting to entice people to cancel cable, although company executives say the weak economy and housing market are to blame. Third-quarter results reported by major cable and satellite TV companies show major losses, but don't settle the question of what's causing them. If "cord-cutting" in favor of Internet video finally is taking hold, that has wide-ranging implications. MORE

Please comment the first section of this brief about INTERNET.
Here in Canada, we do not seem to have the same problem, more and more people are getting on cable system.
In Montreal, my local operator Videotron, has taken over 120,000 phone customer from the Bell. Every one is going IP here in Montreal. They also have around 1,201,700 customer on high speed Internet.
During the second quarter of 2010, the number of subscribers to Videotron's cable telephone service increased by 22,300 to a total of 1,065,300. The steadily growing service offers free long-distance calls between Videotron customers and substantial cost savings for customers.
Question:
Why is people leaving cable tv system in the USA and not in Canada.
