Re: docsis 3.0

Joe is right, that was what I was saying about the higher value taps. There just gets to be to much loss through them. We use 52 as the cut off for the modems, most will still work out to 55 but are sitting on the edge of the window where any fluctuation will put them out. On longer drops RG-11, reconfiguring splitter combinations or return drop amps become your best friends to gain just a couple more db. Be ready for the trouble calls, there is just no way around the ones that are on the edge now unless you take a couple of weeks and do proactive calls on the modems that are at 55 before the upgrade. For the most part we didn't have a problem with the upgrade because most of our modems are still DOCSIS2, you're just adding more downstream carriers to share the load. It is the 64 qam upgrade on the return carrier where you get a little more loss, bringing your transmitt threshold down, but again it is only the ones that have high transmitt levels that had any kind of a problem, and most of them would work intermittantly so the customers would try to work with it for a while allowing the the trouble calls to be spread out over a few weeks.
