Naphthalene moth balls are hydrocarbons like gasoline. Dichlorobenzene moth balls contain hydrochloric acid, which would be very damaging to a car's engine.
Naphthalene Moth Balls
Since naphthalene moth balls will burn, you will experience some increase in power. However, since octane levels in gasoline are fairly high, the increase in octane from adding naphthalene moth balls is minimal. Furthermore, naphthalene is just carbon and hydrogen (like gasoline), so it probably would not harm an engine, but does create smoke when burned.
Dichlorobenzene Moth Balls
Dichlorobenzene moth balls contain hydrochloric acid, chlorine, which is very corrosive. This would be very damaging to an engine. Also, the fumes created from dichlorobenzene moth balls are harmful if inhaled, damaging to the catalytic converter and most assuredly against the manufacturer's warranty.
