Oof...deep breath...
1) pot to piss in - the chamber pot got dumped in the street not the tannery.
2) people bathed regularly, and smelled just fine on their wedding days. Maybe not in a tub full of hot water all the time. The bouqet is a symbol of fertility- remember it gets thrown and who catches it will be married next.
3) the family sharing the bathwater is just gross, I doubt even in the dark ages were people so nasty. This story claims to describe life in the 1500's. the 16th century was the time of Leonardo Da Vinci, Copernicus, Galileo, Shakespeare, Elizabeth, Columbus... The Renaissance... The baby/bathwater is from a German proverb first recorded in English in 1853 by Thomas Carlyle, who translated many works from German (source, Google)
4) dogs and cats dont live in thatched roofs
5) canopy beds were the fashion of nobility, who didn't have trouble with roof-dwelling dogs crapping on the bed.
6) while fresh reeds, straw and aromatic herbs were frequently spread on the floor; the word "thresh" means to beat grain.
7) old food in the stew- sure, we still do that. Bring home the bacon, I'll bite. Chew the fat, however is 19th century military slang.
8) lead poisoning takes years to kill and tomatoes wern't introduced in europe until after the colonization of south america where they are native. At first europeans did think they were poisionous due to thier similarity with common european "nightshade" aka "horsenettle" aka "strychnos" which is deadly to humans.
9) the upper crust thing is plausible, the watching to see if he's dead or drunk is not.
and finally, it is quite true that bones are commonly disinterred and removed to a bone house (crypt) in europe. In fact even today burial plots are leased, not purchased and it is accepted practice to be either reburied or to share a grave. Below is a most amazing example of such a bone house I visited in the Czech Republic. It's in a small town called Kutna Hora and it's 100% human remains. Enjoy!
