The ground at the node is what drew the power surge that far. It more than likely came from the neutral and as the node was the least resistance to ground that is what happens. I wonder was the power system grounded or was it just running on the neutral? I would check powers ground and if it is not up to standard I would send the power company a bill. That is a bummer. Here I see similar all the time. Are you going to add more grounds at the eols?
