After receiving all the great, informative help with my wi-fi questions, I would like to ask the collective brain trust here about upgrading my 6 year old, P4HT 2.8 GHz, 160Gb HDD, 512MB RAM, desktop PC running Windows XP Home SP3. It seems to be slow. I do not have the XP backup disc, never got it when I bought the PC as a floor model from SAMS club.
I would like to replace the HDD with at least a 1TB, and the RAM to 4GB. I am just pulling the numbers off an ad from Tiger Direct that is sellling these things cheap. I guess I would like to upgrade the minimalist video card as well, but it isn't mandatory unless I need one to be able to stream movies in HD to my TV, if it is even possible.
Is this realistic or would it be best to just get another computer completely? Which is least expensive to do? I also would like to put a blu-ray drive in this computer also. Can I change out the HDD without the XP Home backup disc? Or would I need to buy a new OS?
This is enough for now to get the jist of what I want to do without overwhelming the topic or myself. As always, thanks in advance to anyone that can clearly lead me to the answers I seek.
