We did this upgrade to SAII 550 gear about 3 years ago to a small system of about 2500 homes past. I can say this to you out of experience, GO TO THE SA GAINMAKER PLATFORM! Simply do this: 1)switch the lids w/ new power supply 2) swap out the seizing mechanisms from black to blue 3) swap the module. Then with a whole new array of set up gear you are now in serious business for return, you may have 750 MHZ / 860MHZ capacity providing the spacing of your current design. I am just a tech at an MSO and I am sold on GAINMAKER. You really don't save much money upgrading that crappy SAII gear!
That small system of 2500 - is still a major headache to this day. We never got to 40 MHz - even though aftermarket filters and amps were purchased - about 32 MHZ is max at 6 deep. We have fought with a major 5 to 10 MHZ hump at -10 dB from anywhere that there is an LE fed from a System Amp - there seams to be no solutions for it. We have also fought the noise floor which is a raise of up to 15 db intermittently throughout the year. Bench testing the chips and swapping out seams to be correcting this problem.
Summary - please reconsider upgrading your SAII gear - and look into Gain Maker instead.
