Your whole system and everything running in it is based on 75 ohms of resistance.
Televisions, vcrs, dsts, all provide 75 ohms of resistance. unless it is going bad. If you have a system that has multiple taps without port terms, alot of self term taps that have open ports unterminated, open outlets, open drops running to lala land then your going to have these issues.
Do a little reading on ohms law. then go out and do some termination.
It sounds like you got a lower mer when at the splitter than you did on one line off the splitter inside the house? Disconnect the other outlets off the splitter and add some terms to all the ports except the one you hook your meter to and test it then. As you lower the resistance through your plant from all the opens once you get to a term tap that has opens on it your in the dirt already, throw in an open corroded outlet or a bad unit and boom your dealing with reflections. I hope its just a bad outlet that is not the one your working on bro.
Joe gave some good advice on tracking reflections. If you have the equipment to do it the easy way. (main cause of reflections is lack of proper resistance, higher the digital freq the worse it will be affected) Using the spectrum of your dsam will work for a tech who is trained to do so. Google what is 75 ohms and do some reading bro.
Hope this helps and I make some sense, just got back from 4 days of paradise island and I a wore out mofo, good luck.
