You are correct. They serve at the will of the people. But it still does not give you any right to examine anyones credentials. Elected officials have the duty to confirm these credentials. They are not public record. So you either deal with the process, or work to change it, so the public is able to examine credentials as`well. But you can't make up things that gives you the right to see them. It just doesn't exist.
