Seriously though, illegal day laborers make more for doing less and get lunch and provide nothing but their sweat. No drug testing, no DMV abstract, no general liability insurance, no criminal back ground check, no gas, no diagnostic equipment, no fully equipped newer model white van or pick up with cap and ladder rack, etc. When are you guys going to learn that it's time to leave this install business to the curried goat eaters straight off the boat. Believe me, if you have been pulling cable and phone and data lines and bringing signals to spec. and getting peoples crusty old windows 98 porn surfing devices on-line for the past 10 or more years, and take pride in doing neat professional work, than you have a marketable skill set and just have not looked elsewhere to realize that people will pay you a whole lot more to do a whole lot less.
If you truly have talent in the cable biz then take the time to sit down and with the same keystrokes that you use to bitch about how this industry has fallen, type down your work history, which major cable service providers you have actually provided fulfillment services to as a contractor (that's right, as sub contractor with a Cable company issued ID you have provided services to some of the biggest corporations in the country), your experience with customer service ( for those mega corps ) etc. All makes for an impressive resume and or back ground when talking to possible employers and or customers. If you do not have it already take the time to get your low voltage license and contractors permit from what ever state you are in. You already have the tools, the GL ins, the clean white van, be a real contractor or go and work for somebody that is. They are not used to our work ethics of working long hours, or the fact that you can provide all the tools of the trade and a work vehicle that in most cases they will comp you for as it saves them all sorts of $$$$ in insurance and payments.
