ok I'll take another crack at this.
You need to be commended for your strong desire to want to never forget where you came from and I'm sure that you feel that you can separate work from personal when it comes to the people you supervise, so where is the harm right?
Problem is while you may be able to separate the two, the people who report to you may not, and that is something you can't control and trust me its going to happen. Your going to have to reprimand one of them sooner or later and they are going to resort to the old " man I thought we were friends, how can you do this to me, you were at my house for dinner, our kids play together. Seldom will it be "your right I messed up and it won't happen again".
You should know by now that people are funny creatures, and most are incapable of seeing there own faults.
As for right is right and wrong is wrong, that all depends on what window your looking through,( case in point ) you would be hard pressed to find many "informed" americans who would agree that the people of AIG have earned or deserve a bonus. But if your that employee who is due to receive that bonus, you feel you have earned it no matter how bad the company did because it wasn't your fault you did the work.
So who is right and who is wrong?
You need to ask yourself why you really want to be a supervisor or why you took the new position, My guess would be so that you could make a difference and improve your lifestyle for you and your family. Step back and take a fresh look at the whole situation. I wish you the best and hope some little part of this helps.
