depending on what meter you are using, some can see the return spectrum or bring your spectrum analyzer into the feild. We have some triilithic test probes that can be used when you take the port cover off of a tap and insert it into the input side of a tap. lets you see noise coming from the tap or the span or the housing itself. we have 2 types one is blue has a white button on the side and screws into the tap port and is worthless. the other one has a red plastic protective cap on it and just inserts into the tap port area after you remove the port cover and has let me find stuff I normally would not have thought of. I am always amazed at the causes of some of these problems.
