You guys are funny.  CO2 is carbon and oxygen, no water with out the H.  Water vapor is a gas therefore cannot be liquid water as a swimming pool would hold.  It may be present above the surface.  Water retains heat better because it's mass is greater than that of air.  Its the same geo-thermic principle as placing a rock in a campfire.  The rock will stay warm for a while after the fire is out.  As far as a desert losing heat quickly, I've lived in the middle of the Mojave desert for 30 years.  You'd probably get laughed at around here.  112 during the day, 99 at night.  Not much of a cooling trend.
