Personnally I don't think so, contract is contract your money is based on what you do. As a contractor you should be being paid more than those of us who are comissioned based emloyees, if not you need to renegotiate. That said the powers that be where I work have thrown out this idea that they will pay our gas if we become hourly at 10-15 an hour. I average 1100 in 4 days so hourly isn't a viable option for me. However' if I was hourly they would have to pay for every hour I was on the job, but then they would say time starts when you log into your first and log out of your last. Down time sucks I know but hey I get some personnal shit done in that time, after I try to pull the jobs ahead....
