Truer words can't be said. I was brought into this biz by the "old school lineman" like you. No ladders allowed. Ladders were for pussies and roofers. They even made me use a brace and bit when there was a brand new Tanaka on the truck. Didn't understand why back then but looking back I appreciate what those guys made me do back then. They are good men. The breed is dying out though and it is a damn shame. I remember my first day, this old guy told me that linemen were a special breed. Didn't get that either at first but it didn't take long.
