You are dead wrong with the theory of fiber equals less techs. Have you ever been involved with a true FTTH project? I have and the support needed to maintain a fiber network is unbelievably dreadful...and the cost for fiber deployment when all of the consumer end electronics are put in place is almost cost prohibitive. I have worked on a FTTh project for 5 years and nearly every company involved has gone out of business. The service providers cannot get a return on their investments in a reasonable time to make a profit and the electronics are changing so rapidly that a new install is out dated in 6-12 months. The only reason why UTOPIA (look it up) is still going is because they had 11 cities bond for the project.
