You forgot the word "hack" in your opening. As in: "As any good *hack* installer should know....". Because professional installers don't use attenuators. We do the job right the 1st time. How about you PUT a 4,6, or 8-way at d-mark with terminators like your suppose to. So you can take your attenuators back with you to the classroom where you, and they, belong.
BTW: Attenuators can cause data latency, lag, or packet loss if that is a more familiar term. I've seen them cause intermittant connection issues with VoIP equipment too. So saying that attenuators are a good fix is like fucking a plastic blow up doll and calling it good sex. It might get the job done for you, but ........
