As any good installer should know attenuators are an important piece of equipment. think about it, if a customer has internet only and the signal is too hot you  can put a 10db attenuator on it and it will work fine, or you can drop the levels at the tap and screw the guy next door with the big house and an outlet in every room for all his screaming kids. the levels at the  tap are there for a reason and attenuators some times have to be used when the sub wants internet only and does not have the 4 way or 8 way splitter sitting inside the house box.
