The stories are real familiar, I did 16 years doing the transient lineman thing then went in-house with a start up overbuilder 10 years ago. Make decent money, but not getting rich and I'm not staving come the end of january, no fuel bills, no motel bills, no countless hours spent driving, can open my hands up flat without pain, get to see my son grow up and am home with the wife every night. On the downside, I'm home with the wife every night, occasionally have to do service calls (customer contact sucks), put on 20 lbs. cuz I'm not runing my ass off all day to make a buck and have to deal with a bunch of whiners. All in all it was a good decision for me.
