cablemn86 you career path is similar to mine. I did the contracting thing when I was younger. There came a point in time where I just wanted to chill and not worry about all the bs that comes with contracting so I went in-house. Now don't get me wrong, both ways have their share of BS but when I weighted all the options I took the in-house job with the stability and all the benefits. There are some days I regret it but not many. If I was to give advise to a young person just starting in the biz, I would tell them to go in-house for a couple of years, learn some things (paid training), then do contract work, hone your craft, make some money, then go back in-house somewhere when you get older as a maint. tech...that's what I did and it's worked out ok for me. It's tough to pass up the good insurance when you and your old lady start getting old LOL
